Express Entry

Express Entry

The Canada Express Entry Immigration system is a widely popular method of obtaining Canadian permanent residence. It was implemented by the federal government in January 2015 as a replacement for the previous "first come, first served" process.

Express Entry is not an independent immigration program; rather, it functions as an online system designed to manage the intake of immigration applications in Canada. Eligible applicants submit an online profile, referred to as an Expression of Interest (EOI), under one of three federal Canada immigration programs or a participating provincial immigration program. These profiles are then placed in the Express Entry Pool.

Within the pool, candidates' profiles are ranked against one another using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which is based on a points system. The individuals with the highest rankings have the opportunity to receive an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residence. Those who receive an ITA must promptly submit a complete application and pay the necessary processing fees within a 60-day timeframe.

The federal government's goal is to process complete permanent residence applications within a mere six-month period

Express Entry is a streamlined and efficient system for selecting skilled workers to obtain permanent residence in Canada. It encompasses various economic class programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, Canada Experience Class, and select streams under Provincial Nominee Programs.

To apply for Express Entry, the process consists of two steps:

Step 1: Create an online profile Qualified candidates across 347 occupations, such as those in Management & Financial Services, Engineering, Information Technology & Sciences, Health Occupations, Skilled Trades, and more, can submit an expression of interest profile to the Express Entry Pool if they meet the minimum entry criteria. Selection criteria include factors like age, education, language proficiency, work experience, and others. Candidates without a job offer or provincial nomination can also submit an employment profile through the Canada Job Bank to explore Canadian employment opportunities.

Step 2: Receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence Canadian employers who are unable to find suitable Canadian candidates for hire are encouraged to provide a job offer to candidates in the Express Entry Pool. Candidates with a provincial nomination receive the highest points (600), while those with managerial job offers (National Occupation Classification 00) receive 200 points, and others with job offers (NOC O, A, B) receive 50 points. All candidates' profiles in the pool are assessed against each other, and the highest-ranked candidates are considered for an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence. Invited candidates must submit a complete application within 60 days, and invitations are issued periodically throughout the year. Successful applicants and their accompanying dependents can expect processing times of approximately six months.

In the event that a candidate does not receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence, their profile remains in the Express Entry Pool for 12 months. Afterward, candidates who meet the minimum criteria may submit a new profile.

To increase the chances of success, employment recruitment and individualized search consulting assistance are crucial factors for all applicants under Canada's Express Entry immigration system.
